When I look at Katie, I see the embodiment of everything
that is good about human nature. She possesses all of the most important
qualities that make a wonderful partner, mother, and friend. She has a keen ability to perceive needs
before they are ever realized by anyone else. For example, when I was in school
and had a big test the next day, Katie was up early making a big breakfast and
getting my lunch packed; not because she was expected to, but because she knew
it would make my day easier. This is how Katie has always been, and this
quality will be such an indispensable blessing to our children, because they
too will be the center of all her focus and effort.
Which brings me to the next point; focus. When it comes to
getting a job done, or meeting a deadline, Katie has this uncanny ability to be
focused and determined to doing things right and complete the first time. When
Katie was the Director of Recreation Therapy at a nursing home, she did twice
the amount of work than the former director, with half of the staff. Katie has
consistently excelled in her line of work, because she is so dedicated to what
she does. However, Katie understands truly what is the most important thing in
this life, and that is family. Because she is so selfless, Katie desires to put career pursuits on hold to dedicate her time wholeheartedly to raising a wonderful family.
Katie knows what it means to be strong; emotionally, physically
and spiritually. The roller coaster of infertility is emotionally taxing. She
has experienced everything from failed medical procedures to miscarriage, but
does not let these emotions keep her down. By focusing on people outside of
herself, she is able to serve as an anchor for others without drawing attention
to herself. Katie is also physically strong; everything from dance to yoga to
running. She does it all, and loves to keep her body fit and push herself to
her limits. She also demonstrates spiritual strength. She is often the one to
remind me that we need to have family scripture study, and always makes it a
point to point out the ways in which the Lord blesses us. She also serves faithfully
in her calling as a counselor in the Young Women’s in our ward, and enjoys the
spiritual fulfillment that comes from serving others.
I know Katie will make an extraordinary mom. During one week
when her sister and brother-in-law were out of town, she flew to their house to
watch their 3 kids for an entire week. Talk about total immersion! She had 3
kids from the ages of 12 months to 8 years old, and she was able to take them
to all of their activities and keep them safe and healthy all by herself. I
just watch her taking care of our nieces and nephew, and somehow she is able to
meet all of their needs simultaneously, and they love her for it. Rest assured,
any child that becomes a part of our family will have someone who loves them with her whole heart and soul,
and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep them safe and happy.
