About Us

We are Derek and Katie Storrs: best friends, adventure partners, husband and wife, and hoping to soon be parents.

How We Met  (written by Katie)
We met as whitewater rafting guides on the Colorado River in Moab, UT.  However, we only knew each other by site and in fact, did not actually know each other's names.  However, that all changed in January of 2009.  Derek and his best friend had a door-to-door recycling business at BYU called One Man's Trash.  Derek had knocked on my best friend's door.  She and I guided together in Moab and she told me about this recycling program.  I was interested and got Derek's contact information.  I thought I was signing up for recycling, but that wasn't the case.  When Derek came to my house to have me sign the recycling contract I knew I was in over my head and the rest is history.

We began spending time together in February of 2009 and after spending a summer together guiding in Moab, we knew that this was eternal.  We were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 29, 2009 and life has been a constant adventure ever since.

Our Adventures
We love the outdoors and that is where we spend most of our time. We love to rock climb, hike, camp, road bike, mountain bike, raft, backpack, travel, water ski, and snow ski.  We are fortunate to have active families and friends who we can share these passions with us.

We have been all over the mountains and deserts of Utah, Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming to pursue our passions.

Some of the adventures that stand out in our minds are these:
Exploring in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah

Exploring Utah's National Parks: Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Zion's, Arches, and Canyonlands

Peru

Iguazu Falls, Argentina

The Patagonia in Chile and Argentina

Moab, UT

Rocky Mountain National Park

We also love to exercise: running, cycling, and yoga are a few of our favorites.  Every year we go to St. George, UT to run the St. George Marathon with Katie’s family.  We also love to run mud/challenge races, relay races, local races, and are participating in our first cycling race this spring.  Although this and other races are challenging, we enjoy the satisfaction that comes with training and hard work, and knowing that we have accomplished something extraordinary.  This is our approach to everything in life; working hard for something that may be difficult, with the knowledge that the outcome will be worth all of the effort.  Just as our parents taught us the lessons we’ve learned about dedicating ourselves to accomplish our goals, we will strive to teach our children the same.
